You've probably thought, "What's this all about? Technical drivel.". Don't worry, we'll explain it to you step by step! In this blog, we talk about why this technology is important for roofs and how it can help you spot problems faster and save costs
What are IoT sensors?
IoT sensors, or Internet of Things sensors, are small devices with a battery that collect data and send it to a network. Tiny pieces of electronics.
What is LoRa?
LoRa stands for Long Range and is communication technology designed specifically for devices. By choosing LoRa, those sensors use very little energy and last very long on a battery. As much as 20 years.
Why is a gateway important?
An important link in the system is the gateway. You can compare a gateway to the modem in your home. Just as your modem connects the devices in your home to the Internet, a gateway connects sensors on the roof to a network and causes measurement data to be sent to our software for insight and signaling.
It's something you hardly think about until it stops working - and the kids suddenly have no Internet! Just as the modem is important for family coziness, the gateway provides the right data.
We offer insight where there was never insight! 'Roofs are increasingly being used as accommodation space (roof gardens), the installation of PV panels and the collection and gradual discharge of rainwater (retention roofs). The roof is found space. But that also leads to great risks.'
Gateways on the Roof: powered or Solar?
We offer two types of gateways: mains-powered or solar-powered. Which variant we choose depends on the specific situation on the roof.
On Mains Power
When power is available on the roof or there is access to a technical room in the building close to the roof, we choose a grid-powered gateway.
A solar-powered gateway
But in many cases, there is no power on the roof or a technical space that is suitable. In such situations, a Solar Gateway is the perfect solution. These gateways use solar energy and are designed to function completely autonomously, even in Dutch weather conditions.
A bit more expensive, but much less hassle.
